Bacardi Partners with Ryder for Sustainable Shipping
While Ryder System, Inc., has become famous for its expansive fleet of trucks, trailers, and tractors for transporting goods, the company is increasingly recognized for its sustainable logistics and willingness to create unique supply-chain solutions. In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint, Bacardi has partnered with Ryder to transition from truckload to intermodal shipments for increasing numbers of its products.
With the switch to intermodal transport, the company’s products will travel long distances via railroad. Once the products reach a shipping center closer to their final destination, they will be transported on trucks. Relying on rail lines before trucks reduces the number of big rigs on highways and decreases carbon dioxide emissions.
Bacardi and Ryder have also engaged with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay Transport Partnership program, which promotes the use of fuel-efficient SmartWay Verified Technologies in trucks. For the past two years, Bacardi has advanced as a semifinalist for the annual SmartWay Excellence Award, which recognizes outstanding commitment to protecting the environment.
